The new star trek film seems to have beamed people aboard and kicked the franchise back into warp factor nine -i have no clue what ive just said there. The new movie has re-ignited peoples secret love for the sci fi series, and letting us get to know Kirk and co again. The film grossed $73 million dollars last weekend, which assume would i be right in guessing we’ll be seeing more Trek movies?

The film takes alook at younger versions of the crew of the enterprise to a time before Kirk became captain of the enterprise, and joins in Starfleet. We are re-introduced again to the original crew- Spock, Dr McCoy and Mr Sulu. The film also gives us a surprise cameo from a member of the enterprise, but telling would reveal a polt twist, so i wont mention it here. The reboot brings the Star Trek franchise back to life, as for awhile there hasnt been any TV shows or a movie as interest in star trek appeared to be dwindling. The last film took place in 2002, and their are rumours that another Star Trek tv show was cancelled, due to what studios felt was flagging interest. The film has split ‘Trekkies’ with its inclusion of more action over intelligent plot, but sadly thats probably what has helped to make it more accessible to the general public. So what does the success of this prequel mean? Will that once canned tv show see an appearance at last? Or more importantly, will we get another movie out of it?

Most of the films humor comes from actor/writer of zombie comedy ‘Shaun of the dead’s Simon Pegg, playing engineer Scotty. So how has the prequel saved the franchise from being forgotten by studios? Everyone is sort of familar with the original crew whether you watched Star Trek or not, the director has also punched up the humor and the action -making it a worthy summer blockbuster.
