If you live in 1 of the mayor English speaking countries it would have been most likely very difficult for you to of not, at the very least, heard of the Science fiction serial Dr. Who! Now that DW is back on television since 2005 after it’s fifteen year pause the serial has gotten to be pretty popular once more, so mush so in fact that even the Science fiction channel has taken an interest in the series.
Dr. Who all began in November 1963 when it’s 1st episode aired on TV taking the Dr. & his companions back into the past where they helped some cavemen to make the discovery of fire. When you take into account the brand new series Dr. Who is currently the longest running Sci-Fi serial of all time! Star Trek happens to be the 2nd longest running Sci-Fi show of all time having began in nineteen sixty thee with stories being produced up in to only a few years ago.
During the mid seventies the BBC expanded Dr. Who into the audio median creating the first Doctor Who Audio books. Initially the BBC only produced soundtracks from the original television series and then had the Doctors of the time add some linking narration for completion. It wasn’t long before the BBC decided to take the audio releases to the next level by releasing audio book stories exclusively for Audio release.
In addition the DW Audio family was extended with the release of Audios from episodes that had exclusively appeared on the radio. Also a lot of of the lost stories have been re done by their original Doctors in the Audio format making them finally available to the public once more. Now the BBC’s Dr. Who Audio collection has over fifty titles all available in top notch Digital format at a reduced download price! There exist Audio Books from the very 1st serial all the way up to the most recent show with David Tennent and even Sarah Jane and Torchwood Audios.
On our planet today audio is even more popular than ever thanks to MP3 players. With multitasking becoming everyday more an important part of our lives it’s not surprising that Audio Book sales for both DW and in general have augmented. Another great factor about audio titles is that they are in many cases narrated by their original actors, which really adds to the whole experience. They are also a excellent choice for long car rides, especially with children as there’s nothing like a good Doctor Who episode to keep them busy.
The way things stand right now it looks like Dr. Who and its spin-off serial torchwood and the Sarah Jane adventures are doing very well so things look good for us to be able to be entertained by them for some years to come.
