Fonejacker is a fictional character played by Kayvan Novak; in the show named after the protagonist, unsuspecting members of the public are contacted by the fictitious prank caller, who passes off as different characters. In a style reminiscent of Monty Python, the show includes pictures of people with their mouths moving, in animated cut-out fashion. Through undercover filming, certain scenes show the Fonejacker calling a company nearby from the street. His trademark uniform is a red and white balaclava and sunglasses (the balaclava was black in the Pilot).

Kayvan Novak is not usually seen as the Fonejacker; however he plays a role during Mr Doovdé’s calls, playing a model advertising various items, such as DVD players and for dfs.

The word “fonejack” is defined in the start of each episode as “to seize control of a telephone conversation by farce esp - to divert it from reason and logic”; subsequently, the first scene usually shows Mr Doovdé calling the Directory Enquires from an American payphone. Mike switched roles with Mr Doovdé, in headlining the fifth episode.

The final episode of the first series revealed that two callers had previously been fonejacked by George, implying that the Fonejacker series 2 does not inform the victim the call was a prank. Not all Fonejacks are included in the show, since those specific callers had never been seen.

The show was originated from a 2006 Comedy Lab pilot; this is a show looking for new talents in comedy. Since it was so successful, the show was given a six-part series in October 2006, which would get broadcast on E4 from April next year. There was a five-minute short version of the pilot titled Fonejacker’s Christmas Message; it was broadcast on December 29, 2006, as a Christmas special. A disclaimer of sorts was broadcast at the end of the show… Fonejacker: Coming April 2007 - Don’t Pick Up The Phone.

In March, Channel 4 and E4 started airing a teaser trailer for the upcoming series; the advert was comprised of clips from the show’s pilot. The show was somehow put on hold, and it wasn’t aired in April, Rumors started to spread it would begin June 7 2007, but when the time came nothing happened. After this, rumours spread that the show would start on June 7 2007, which was also false. In June that year, new trailers were introduced… just as fans of the show started to feel hopeless. A television within the clips was shown broadcasting news reports: “New sightings of the Fonejacker”, even as he proceeded to make various calls from within his own flat. Following the new advert, the motto Don’t Pick Up The Phone was flashed, along with the URL for the same E4 website. Just a few days later, there was a newer alternative advert.

Just a few hours before the first show, Terry Tibbs called into the show Big Brother’s Little Brother, thus having a conversation about a Rolls Royce with a lad called Paul: that was actually the Fonejacker. Regardless, it was obvious no mention of Fonejacker had been made, judging from the reaction of presenter Dermot O’Leary. Yet another component of its aggressive advertising, there was a “Fonejacker Tonight 10-30” reminder on display all through the night, below E4’s on-screen graphic.

His fan site has many soundboards, im quite particular to the fonejacker sound board that features Mr Doovde, this one always makes me giggle.

Fonejacker’s first broadcast as an independent show took place on the 5th of July 2007 at 10-30 pm, making no reservations against strong profanity. In the 9th of September 2008, Fonejacker series two started broadcast. Details are unknown, regarding the possibility of a third series.
